Description

A hearty, sweet and savory side dish featuring baked beans and tart apples baked in a rich barbecue sauce. Perfect for cozy dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 (16 oz) cans baked beans
  • 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1⅓ cups barbecue sauce
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a 9×13‑inch baking dish, mix together the baked beans, diced apples, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and raisins if using.
  3. Bake uncovered for 90 minutes, stirring occasionally to help the flavors meld and the sauce thicken.
  4. Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor balance.
  • Substitute raisins with dried cranberries or chopped dates for variation.
  • Add smoked paprika or chili powder for a spicier kick.
  • Maple syrup or coconut sugar can be used instead of brown sugar.
  • Reheats well and can be made a day ahead.
