Description
These banana bars with cream cheese frosting are moist, flavorful, and an ideal way to use overripe bananas. Perfect for gatherings or a sweet treat at home.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2-3 bananas)
- 1 batch cream cheese frosting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13x2-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a small bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Add eggs, sour cream, and vanilla to the butter mixture and beat well.
- Mix in mashed bananas until well combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing until just incorporated.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow bars to cool completely before frosting.
- Spread cream cheese frosting evenly over the cooled bars.
Notes
- Very ripe bananas enhance flavor and sweetness.
- Store frosted bars in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Bars can be frozen (without frosting) for up to 2 months.
- Add chocolate chips or walnuts for variation.
- Greek yogurt can be used instead of sour cream.
