Description
This brown sugar meatloaf recipe offers a deliciously sweet twist on a classic dish, with a caramelized brown sugar glaze and moist, savory meatloaf.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ lbs ground beef
- 1 cup milk
- ¾ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup finely chopped onion
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, milk, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared loaf pan, pressing it in firmly and shaping it into a loaf.
- In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Spread half of this glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
- Remove the meatloaf from the oven and carefully drain any excess fat. Spread the remaining glaze over the top.
- Return the meatloaf to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the glaze is bubbly and caramelized.
- Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure it reaches 160°F internally.
- Prepare ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.
- Substitute breadcrumbs with crushed crackers or oats if desired.
- Ground turkey can be used for a leaner alternative.
- Don’t overmix the meat to avoid a dense loaf.
