Description

This brown sugar meatloaf recipe offers a deliciously sweet twist on a classic dish, with a caramelized brown sugar glaze and moist, savory meatloaf.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¾ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, milk, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared loaf pan, pressing it in firmly and shaping it into a loaf.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Spread half of this glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
  5. Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove the meatloaf from the oven and carefully drain any excess fat. Spread the remaining glaze over the top.
  7. Return the meatloaf to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the glaze is bubbly and caramelized.
  8. Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure it reaches 160°F internally.
  • Prepare ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • Substitute breadcrumbs with crushed crackers or oats if desired.
