Description

Cheesy Garlic Cruffins are delightful, flaky crescent roll pastries filled with melted cheddar cheese and a flavorful garlic butter. Perfect as a savory snack or appetizer, these baked treats blend buttery, cheesy goodness with fresh chives and garlic for a mouthwatering experience that’s sure to impress at any gathering.

Ingredients

Dough and Filling

  • 3 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent roll sheets
  • ½ cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 3 cups (339 g) mild cheddar cheese, shredded, divided

Garlic Butter Topping

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chives, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare muffin tin: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a standard 12-cup muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray and set it aside for later.
  2. Roll out dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll each tube of refrigerated crescent roll dough into a 12x16-inch rectangle. If using perforated crescent roll sheets, pinch seams to seal the dough so it holds together.
  3. Prepare garlic butter mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, finely chopped chives, and minced garlic. Mix thoroughly to create a flavorful garlic butter spread.
  4. Spread butter on dough: Evenly spread about one-third of the garlic butter mixture over one sheet of rolled-out dough.
  5. Add cheese layer: Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mild cheddar cheese evenly over the buttered dough.
  6. Roll dough into a log: Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough sheet into a log shape, encasing the cheese and butter within.
  7. Cut the dough logs: Cut the rolled log in half to create two shorter logs. Then, cut each of those logs lengthwise in half, resulting in four sections of dough.
  8. Repeat filling and rolling: Perform the spreading, sprinkling, rolling, and cutting steps with the remaining two sheets of dough and garlic butter mixture. You will end up with 12 sections of dough in total.
  9. Shape into cruffins: Take one dough section at a time, with the layered side facing out, and roll it tightly into a cinnamon-roll-like shape, tucking the end underneath.
  10. Arrange in muffin tin: Place each shaped cruffin into the prepared muffin tin cups. Repeat with all 12 sections.
  11. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cruffins turn golden brown and are cooked through.
  12. Prepare garlic butter topping: While the cruffins bake, whisk together melted butter, minced garlic, chopped chives, and kosher salt in a small bowl.
  13. Brush butter on warm cruffins: As soon as the cruffins come out of the oven, generously brush them with the prepared garlic butter mixture to add shine and extra flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure the dough seams are properly sealed to prevent cheese from leaking during baking.
  • Use mild cheddar for a smoother melt; sharp cheddar can also be substituted for bolder flavor.
  • Can be served warm as a snack or alongside soups and salads for a savory accompaniment.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, reheat gently before serving.
  • Optionally, sprinkle additional fresh chives on top after brushing the garlic butter for garnish.
