Description

This Classical Green Bean Casserole is a timeless and comforting side dish perfect for holiday dinners or family gatherings. Featuring tender green beans baked in a creamy mushroom sauce and topped with crispy French fried onions, it’s easy to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Green Bean Casserole

  • 2 (10.5 ounce) cans cream of mushroom soup (cream of chicken works well too)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 5 (14.5 ounce) cans green beans, drained
  • 2-3 cups French fried onions (such as French's)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to get it ready for baking the casserole evenly.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a 13x9 inch baking dish, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, and the drained green beans. Stir gently until everything is well incorporated and evenly coated.
  3. Bake the Casserole: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake uncovered for 25 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the casserole to heat through.
  4. Add Fried Onions and Finish Baking: Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the top evenly with 2 to 3 cups of French fried onions. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp the onions perfectly.

Notes

  • Drain the canned green beans very well to avoid excess liquid in the casserole.
  • You can substitute cream of chicken soup if preferred for a slightly different flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of black pepper to suit your taste.
  • For a fresher option, use steamed green beans instead of canned, but cooking times may vary.
