Description

Cookie Butter Muddy Buddies are a deliciously sweet and crunchy snack featuring crispy Chex cereal coated in a smooth blend of cookie butter, white chocolate or cinnamon chips, and powdered sugar. This treat combines creamy, sweet flavors with a satisfying crunch, perfect for parties, snack time, or gifting.

Ingredients

Cookie Butter Mixture

  • 1/2 cup cookie butter
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips or cinnamon chips
  • 1-2 tablespoons shortening or butter

Cereal & Coating

  • 4-5 cups Chex cereal
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Dish: Grease a baking dish and line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Melt Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the cookie butter, white chocolate or cinnamon chips, and shortening or butter. Microwave in 20-second increments, stirring well after each, until the mixture is fully melted and smooth.
  3. Coat Cereal: Pour the melted mixture over the Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently but thoroughly until every piece of cereal is evenly coated with the cookie butter mixture.
  4. Add Powdered Sugar: Transfer the coated cereal into a large resealable plastic bag. Add the powdered sugar, seal the bag, and shake vigorously until all the cereal is well coated with the powdered sugar for that classic muddy buddy texture.
  5. Dry & Store: Spread the coated cereal evenly into the prepared baking dish to let it dry and set for about one hour. Once dried, transfer to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

  • Use shortening instead of butter if you prefer a more stable coating that doesn’t melt as easily.
  • White chocolate chips can be substituted with cinnamon chips for a different flavor twist.
  • Ensure you coat the cereal thoroughly to get the iconic muddy buddies texture.
  • Allow the mixture to set completely so it firms up and stays crisp.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week for best freshness.
