Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add all-purpose flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Roll tablespoons of dough into balls and place them 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
  5. Flatten each ball slightly with the back of a fork or fingers.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  7. Cool cookies on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  • Mix in citrus zest or chopped nuts for variation.
  • Dip cooled cookies in chocolate for a decorative finish.
