Description
A vibrant, crunchy twist on the classic taco salad, blending homemade taco-seasoned beef, crisp lettuce, melty cheese, fresh veggies, creamy dressing, and—of course—Nacho Cheese Doritos for that irresistible crunch.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1 head iceberg or romaine lettuce, chopped
- 1 cup diced tomato
- 4 oz cheddar cheese, shredded
- 4 oz Nacho Cheese Doritos, lightly crushed (reserve right before serving)
- Optional: bell pepper, red onion, olives, beans, sour cream, salsa, jalapeños
Instructions
- Cook the beef in a skillet over medium heat until no pink remains. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in taco seasoning with water as directed on the packet. Simmer until thickened. Let it cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine chopped lettuce, tomato, cheese, and any optional ingredients.
- Add the cooled ground beef to the bowl and mix.
- Just before serving, sprinkle in the Doritos and drizzle with dressing of choice (Catalina, ranch, or salsa-based). Toss gently.
- Serve immediately for best crunch.
Notes
- Keep the Doritos from getting soggy by adding them just before serving.
- For a vegetarian version, swap the beef for black beans, seasoned tofu, or chickpeas.
- Dressings can include Catalina, ranch, French, or salsa-style.
- For a heartier salad, add black beans or pinto beans.
- Store the salad without chips and dressing if making ahead for the best crunch.
