Description

A simple and customizable avocado toast recipe featuring creamy mashed avocado on golden, crisp toast, perfect for breakfast, a snack, or light lunch.

Ingredients

  • 1 thick slice of good-quality bread (whole grain, sourdough, or country loaf)
  • ½ ripe avocado
  • Pinch of sea salt (more to taste)
  • Optional extras: olive oil, fresh lemon juice, red pepper flakes, everything-bagel seasoning, sliced tomatoes, eggs, smoked salmon, fresh herbs

Instructions

  1. Toast the bread until golden-brown and crisp.
  2. Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, scoop the flesh into a small bowl, and mash it with a fork until mostly smooth.
  3. Mix in a pinch of sea salt and a squeeze of lemon juice if using.
  4. Spread the mashed avocado evenly over the toast.
  5. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with flaky salt, then add any desired extra toppings.

Notes

  • Eat the toast fresh to avoid sogginess and browning of the avocado.
  • Store leftover mashed avocado in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed on the surface and use within a day.
  • Customize with various toppings like eggs, smoked salmon, or tomatoes for variety.
