Description

A comforting and effortless slow cooker sloppy joes recipe, perfect for busy days or feeding a crowd. Just brown the meat, toss in the ingredients, and let it simmer to savory perfection.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds lean ground beef (preferably 93/7 sirloin)
  • 1 medium white onion, diced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 large red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (up to 2 teaspoons for more heat)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until it is no longer pink. Drain off excess grease if needed.
  2. Transfer the browned beef to a slow cooker. Add all remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 4–6 hours.
  4. Serve the sloppy joes on hamburger or brioche buns, or over rice, noodles, or baked potatoes for a twist.

Notes

  • Toast buns before serving for added texture.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Use barbecue sauce instead of ketchup for a smoky flavor.
  • Add jalapeños for extra heat.
