Juicy hamburger steaks simmered in a creamy, garlicky dill sauce. A hearty, flavorful dish perfect for weeknights or special dinners, served best with mashed potatoes or crusty bread.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 yellow onion, grated and chopped
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef with breadcrumbs, grated onion, salt, pepper, heavy cream, and egg just until combined.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape into thick patties.
- Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear patties for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown. Transfer to a plate.
- In the same skillet, sauté chopped onion and garlic over low heat for 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add salt, pepper, and flour, stirring to form a roux. Cook briefly.
- Pour in chicken broth, scraping up browned bits, and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Add heavy cream and chopped dill, then bring to a gentle boil until sauce thickens slightly.
- Return patties to skillet and simmer in sauce for 5–6 minutes until fully cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh dill and cracked black pepper before serving.
Notes
- Don’t overmix the beef mixture to keep patties tender.
- Let patties rest a few minutes before cooking to help them hold shape.
- Use fresh dill for the best flavor; substitute with 1 tsp dried dill if needed.
- Add a splash of white wine or Dijon mustard for a flavor twist.
