Description
Crunchy homemade peanut butter dog treats made with five wholesome ingredients—peanut butter, egg, banana, maple syrup, and whole wheat flour. Simple to bake and a hit with pups!
Ingredients
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter (ensure it contains no xylitol)
- 1 egg
- ½ ripe banana, mashed
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, beat together the peanut butter, egg, mashed banana, and maple syrup until smooth.
- Slowly mix in the whole wheat flour until the dough comes together.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to about ½‑inch thickness. If crumbly, add 2–3 tablespoons of water.
- Cut out shapes with a cookie cutter and place them on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 15–25 minutes until golden brown, adjusting time based on thickness.
- Let the treats cool completely before serving to your dog.
Notes
- Use only peanut butter that does not contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
- For softer treats, cut thicker and bake for less time; for crunchier treats, cut thinner and bake longer.
- Oat or gluten-free flour can be used as a 1:1 substitute, but may require more liquid.
- Store in an airtight container: 2 days at room temperature, 10 days in the fridge, or freeze for several months.
- Optional: Add dog-friendly toppings like kibble or dog-safe frosting.
