Description

A quick and flavorful Honey Garlic Chicken Breast recipe that combines tender chicken with a sweet and tangy honey garlic sauce. Perfect for a weeknight dinner, this dish is prepared by pan-searing the chicken and simmering it in a buttery honey garlic glaze made with garlic, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and honey.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 500g / 1 lb boneless and skinless chicken breasts (2 pieces)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup flour

Sauce

  • 3 1/2 tbsp (50g) unsalted butter (or 2 1/2 tbsp olive oil)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or white or other clear vinegar)
  • 1 tbsp light or all-purpose soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup honey (or maple syrup)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Cut each chicken breast in half horizontally to create four thinner chicken steaks. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
  2. Coat with flour: Place the flour in a shallow dish. Dredge each chicken piece in the flour, shaking off any excess to ensure a light coating that helps develop a golden crust.
  3. Melt butter in skillet: In a large skillet, melt most of the butter (reserve about 1 teaspoon) over high heat to get the pan hot for searing the chicken.
  4. Sear the chicken: Add the chicken pieces to the hot skillet. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the underside is golden brown and crisp, then flip and cook on the other side for 1 minute to develop color.
  5. Adjust heat: Reduce heat to medium-high to gently finish cooking without burning the sauce.
  6. Cook garlic: Create space in the pan and add the minced garlic along with the reserved dab of butter. Stir the garlic briefly as the butter melts to release the aroma without burning.
  7. Add sauce ingredients: Pour in the apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Stir or gently shake the pan to combine all ingredients into a sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 1 minute until the sauce thickens slightly.
  8. Coat chicken in sauce: Turn the chicken pieces in the sauce to coat evenly. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a small splash of water and stir to adjust consistency.
  9. Serve immediately: Remove the pan from heat to prevent overcooking. Plate the chicken and spoon any remaining sauce over the top for maximum flavor.

Notes

  • Flour coating helps create a crispy exterior and thickens the sauce slightly.
  • You can substitute olive oil for butter if desired.
  • Maple syrup can be used instead of honey for a different but equally delicious sweetness.
  • Adjust the amount of soy sauce depending on your preferred saltiness level.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and tamari soy sauce.
