A quick and flavorful Honey Garlic Chicken recipe featuring tender chicken thighs or breasts cooked to golden perfection in a savory honey garlic sauce, enhanced with soy sauce and a touch of ginger. Perfect for a delicious weeknight dinner, garnished with fresh green onions for added brightness.
Ingredients
Chicken
- 4 chicken thighs or breasts
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
Garnish
- 2 green onions, sliced (optional)
Instructions
- Season the chicken: Pat the chicken thighs or breasts dry and season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.
- Cook the chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 6-8 minutes on each side until both sides are golden brown and the chicken is cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger if using. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to create a slurry and add to this mixture.
- Simmer the sauce: Pour the honey garlic mixture into the same pan over medium heat. Allow it to simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens and becomes glossy.
- Coat the chicken: Return the cooked chicken to the pan with the sauce, turning to coat each piece thoroughly in the sticky glaze.
- Garnish and serve: Remove the pan from heat. Garnish the chicken with sliced green onions if desired. Serve warm with your preferred side dishes.
Notes
- Chicken thighs are juicier and more forgiving if overcooked, but breasts work well too.
- Adjust soy sauce quantity to manage saltiness.
- Add cornstarch slurry gradually to avoid over-thickening.
- Serve with steamed rice, noodles, or vegetables for a complete meal.
- For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the sauce.
