Description

This Lasagna Flatbread recipe offers a quick and delicious twist on traditional lasagna by using flatbreads as the base. Layered with a rich ricotta and cheese mixture, savory sausage cooked in marinara sauce, and topped with melted mozzarella, it's an easy-to-make, crowd-pleasing dish perfect for a weeknight dinner or casual meal.

Ingredients

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (half of an 8-ounce package)
  • 1 (3 ounce) package Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

Sausage Mixture

  • 1 pound sausage
  • ½ (26 ounce) jar marinara sauce

Base

  • 6 flatbreads
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (remaining half of the 8-ounce package)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for baking the flatbreads.
  2. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, and Italian seasoning. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is well blended and creamy.
  3. Cook Sausage: Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the sausage until it is no longer pink, approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess grease for a healthier flatbread.
  4. Add Marinara Sauce: Stir the marinara sauce into the cooked sausage mixture to create a flavorful topping for the flatbreads.
  5. Assemble Flatbreads: Spread one-sixth of the cheese mixture evenly over each flatbread, then cover each with the sausage and marinara mixture. Finally, sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  6. Bake: Place the assembled flatbreads on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.

Notes

  • You can substitute cottage cheese for ricotta cheese if preferred for a different texture.
  • Ground hamburger can be used instead of sausage as an alternative meat option.
  • Drain cooked sausage thoroughly to avoid soggy flatbreads.
  • Use quality marinara sauce for the best flavor.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
