Description

Enjoy the classic taste of chocolate chip cookies in a thick, gooey, and shareable bar form with these melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chip cookie bars. Perfectly chewy with a rich buttery flavor and loaded with semi-sweet chocolate chips, this easy-to-make recipe is ideal for any occasion where you want a nostalgic treat with minimal fuss.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup (200g) packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 2¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

Mix-ins

  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch pan or line it with parchment paper to ensure easy removal and cleaner edges.
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and well combined. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, then whisk again until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
  3. Combine the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking soda together. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula or wooden spoon, stirring just until no streaks of flour remain. Be careful not to overmix to maintain a tender texture.
  4. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold the semi-sweet chocolate chips into the dough until they are evenly distributed throughout.
  5. Press Into Pan: Evenly spread the dough into the prepared baking pan. Use your hands or a spatula to smooth the surface for uniform thickness.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 28 to 32 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with moist crumbs but no wet batter.
  7. Cool and Cut: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes. This resting time helps the bars set so they hold their shape when sliced into squares.

Notes

  • Use melted butter for a richer flavor and chewy texture. Ensure the butter is slightly cooled to prevent cooking the eggs during mixing.
  • Lining the pan with parchment paper makes removal easier and results in cleaner edges.
  • Do not overbake. Bars should appear just set in the center as they will continue cooking slightly from residual heat as they cool.
