Description

Old Fashioned Goulash is a classic, hearty one-pot meal made with ground beef, elbow macaroni, and a rich tomato-based sauce. This easy comfort food is perfect for busy weeknights and delivers nostalgic flavors the whole family will love. Great for meal prep or feeding a crowd!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onions and minced garlic, sauté until soft and fragrant.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, water, soy sauce, bay leaves, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Add elbow macaroni and continue to simmer for 15 minutes, or until pasta is tender.
  6. Remove bay leaves, stir, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute ground beef with ground turkey.
  • Add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for more nutrition.
  • Stir in shredded cheddar cheese before serving for a cheesy twist.
  • Reheat with a splash of broth or water to loosen the sauce.
  • Freezes well for up to 2 months.
