Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes combine the rich, cheesy goodness of a Philly cheesesteak with the saucy comfort of a sloppy joe in one skillet meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 cup mushrooms, chopped (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 4–6 sandwich rolls or hamburger buns
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add onions, green bell pepper, and mushrooms (if using). Sauté until soft.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and cornstarch. Pour into skillet and stir.
- Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
- Reduce heat, lay provolone slices over the mixture, and let them melt. Stir gently to combine.
- Spoon the mixture onto warm sandwich rolls and serve immediately.
Notes
- Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Use pepper jack or American cheese for a flavor variation.
- Toast buns to avoid sogginess.
- Store leftovers separately from buns for best results.
- Filling can be frozen for up to 2 months.
