Description

A flavorful and indulgent Savory Smash Burger Bowl that satisfies burger cravings without the guilt. Featuring air-fried crispy potatoes, caramelized onions, smashed seared beef topped with melty cheese, and a zesty Cajun mayo sauce, served over fresh lettuce and pickles for a balanced, delicious meal ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Protein

  • 1 lb Ground Beef (or ground turkey or plant-based crumbles)

Vegetables & Greens

  • 4 medium Red Potatoes (or riced cauliflower for low-carb)
  • 1 medium Onion (diced, caramelized)
  • 1 cup Pickles (or cucumbers)
  • 2 cups Lettuce (any mix of leafy greens)

Dairy

  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese (Colby Jack or pepper jack)

Condiments & Seasonings

  • 1/2 cup Mayo (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1/4 cup Ketchup (low-sugar)
  • 1 tbsp Mustard (Dijon for a twist)
  • 1 tbsp Cajun Seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • Olive oil, salt, and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Potatoes: Dice the red potatoes into small, even pieces. Toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper to season evenly. Air fry the potatoes at 400°F (200°C) for 16-18 minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  2. Caramelize Onions: Heat a splash of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onions and sauté gently for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they achieve a deep golden brown color and become tender and sweet.
  3. Cook and Smash Beef: Increase the skillet heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Use a spatula to press down and smash the beef evenly into the pan for a good sear. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the meat is browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess fat and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Make Cajun Sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine the mayo, low-sugar ketchup, Dijon mustard, and Cajun seasoning. Whisk the ingredients together until smooth, creamy, and well blended for a flavorful sauce.
  5. Assemble the Bowl: Start with the air-fried crispy potatoes as the base layer in your bowl. Add the smashed beef on top, followed by caramelized onions and shredded cheese so it slightly melts from the residual heat. Drizzle the prepared Cajun sauce generously over the ingredients. Finish by topping with pickles and fresh lettuce for crunch and freshness.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a lighter or vegetarian option.
  • For a low-carb version, swap diced potatoes with riced cauliflower and air fry or sauté similarly.
  • Adjust Cajun seasoning according to your spice preference.
  • Using Greek yogurt instead of mayo decreases fat and adds protein.
  • Serve immediately for best flavor and texture to enjoy crispy potatoes and warm melty cheese.
