Description

Simple drop sugar cookies that are soft, slightly chewy, and easy to make


Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all‑purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon fine salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Optional: extra sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined (do not overmix).
  6. Form dough into balls (about 1 to 2 tablespoons each). Optionally roll each ball in extra sugar.
  7. Place balls on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for about 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but centers are still soft.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Do not overbake — cookies will continue to set as they cool.
  • If dough is too soft, chill for 10–15 minutes before baking.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep them soft.
  • You can add sprinkles, colored sugar, or frost after cooling if desired.
