Description
These 4-Ingredient Cheesy Sausage Pinwheels are a simple, crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring crescent dough stuffed with savory breakfast sausage, tangy Dijon mustard, and sharp cheddar cheese. Perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside, they are ideal for entertaining or snacking.
Ingredients
Dough
- 2 (8 ounce) packages crescent dough sheets (or rolls)
Filling
- 1 pound breakfast sausage roll
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) to ensure it’s ready once the pinwheels are assembled.
- Prepare dough sheets: Unroll each crescent dough sheet. If you're using crescent rolls instead of sheets, pinch the seams together carefully to create one solid sheet for easy rolling.
- Spread sausage: Divide the breakfast sausage roll in half and spread each half evenly in a very thin layer over the dough sheets, ensuring full coverage.
- Add mustard and cheese: Spread 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard over the sausage-topped dough sheet. Then sprinkle an even layer of shredded sharp Cheddar cheese on top.
- Roll dough: Starting at the longer side of the dough, roll it securely into a tight log shape. If the dough becomes too soft or warm while rolling, place it in the freezer for 10 minutes to firm up.
- Slice rolls: Cut each roll into 22 slices about 1/2 inch thick, creating the pinwheels.
- Arrange and bake: Place the pinwheels spaced on two lightly greased, parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 14 minutes or until golden brown with a toasted bottom.
Notes
- Use crescent dough sheets if possible for an easier rolling process.
- Chill the rolled dough before slicing if it gets too soft to ensure clean slices.
- Serve warm for the best cheesy flavor and texture.
- Can be doubled or halved easily depending on crowd size.
