Description

These Asian Turkey Lettuce Wraps are a quick and flavorful dish perfect for a light lunch or dinner. Ground turkey is sautéed with garlic and ginger, then combined with crunchy water chestnuts and a savory sauce made from hoisin, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and chili paste. Served in crisp Bibb or Butter lettuce leaves, these wraps offer a delicious and healthy low-carb option bursting with Asian-inspired flavors.

Ingredients

Protein

  • lb. lean ground turkey (or ground chicken)

Produce

  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 4 green onions (thinly sliced)
  • 12 Bibb/Butter lettuce leaves

Canned Goods

  • 1 8 oz can sliced water chestnuts, drained and coarsely chopped

Condiments & Sauces

  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lower-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons roasted red chili paste

Oils & Spices

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil and Cook Turkey: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the lean ground turkey along with the minced garlic and ground ginger. Cook for about 6 minutes, stirring and crumbling the turkey as it browns until fully cooked through.
  2. Combine with Vegetables: Transfer the cooked turkey mixture to a large bowl. Add the thinly sliced green onions and coarsely chopped drained water chestnuts. Stir well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
  3. Mix the Sauce and Toss: In a small bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, lower-sodium soy sauce, rice vinegar, and roasted red chili paste. Drizzle this flavorful sauce over the turkey mixture and toss thoroughly so every bite is coated with the delicious sauce.
  4. Assemble and Serve: Spoon about ¼ cup of the turkey filling onto each Bibb or Butter lettuce leaf. Serve the wraps fresh and enjoy the combination of savory, crunchy, and spicy flavors in every bite.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground chicken if you prefer a lighter meat option.
  • For a spicier wrap, add more roasted red chili paste according to your taste.
  • Use iceberg lettuce as an alternative if Bibb or Butter lettuce is not available.
  • These wraps are perfect for meal prep; keep ingredients separate and assemble just before eating.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, use gluten-free soy sauce and hoisin sauce.
