Description

This Baked Honey Mustard Chicken is a flavorful and easy-to-make main dish that combines tender chicken breasts with a sweet, tangy honey mustard sauce. Perfect for a simple weeknight dinner or a casual meal, the recipe requires minimal prep and yields juicy, oven-baked chicken with a delicious glaze.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp cracked black pepper

Honey Mustard Sauce

  • ¼ cup honey (local if possible)
  • ¼ cup grainy mustard
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8x11-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Season the Chicken: Pat dry the chicken breasts with paper towels. Place them in the prepared baking dish and season both sides evenly with sea salt and cracked black pepper. Set aside temporarily.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine honey, grainy mustard, Dijon mustard, yellow mustard, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, dried parsley, dried basil, and smoked paprika if using. Stir well until all ingredients are fully incorporated into a smooth sauce.
  4. Coat the Chicken: Pour the honey mustard sauce evenly over the chicken breasts. Flip each breast to coat both sides thoroughly with the sauce.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness, ensuring the thickest part of the chicken reaches at least 165°F (74°C).
  6. Baste During Baking: Halfway through baking, baste the chicken with the sauce and juices accumulating in the dish. Cover the dish loosely with foil if the sauce begins to brown too fast to prevent burning.
  7. Serve: Once cooked through, remove the chicken from the oven and serve warm, spooning any remaining sauce from the baking dish over the chicken as desired.

Notes

  • Storage: Allow leftover chicken to cool to room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Optional Garnish: Fresh parsley or lemon wedges can enhance presentation and flavor.
  • Smoked Paprika: Adding smoked paprika provides a subtle smoky note, but it is optional.
