Description

This Easy Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal is a warm, comforting breakfast made with sautéed apples, cinnamon, and rolled oats simmered to creamy perfection. Perfectly spiced and lightly sweetened, it's a wholesome way to start your day in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Fruit and Spices

  • 2 medium apples, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice

Sweets and Grains

  • 2 - 4 tablespoons light brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup old fashioned or rolled oats

Liquids and Seasoning

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 pinch coarse salt

Instructions

  1. Sauté Apples: Heat a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the chopped apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Sauté, stirring occasionally, until the apples soften and release their juices, about 5 minutes.
  2. Toast Oats: Add the rolled oats to the apples in the saucepan and stir them to coat with the apple mixture. Let the oats toast lightly for about one minute to enhance their nutty flavor.
  3. Boil Oatmeal: Pour in the water and increase the heat to high. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
  4. Simmer to Finish: Immediately lower the heat to low, allowing the oatmeal to simmer gently. Stir frequently to prevent sticking and cook until the oats absorb the water and the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can adjust the brown sugar quantity to suit your preferred sweetness level.
  • For added texture, sprinkle nuts or seeds on top before serving.
  • Substitute water with milk or a milk alternative for creamier oatmeal.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled to serve more people.
  • Use fresh apples for best flavor, but frozen can work in a pinch.
