Description

This Easy Peach Cobbler Recipe offers a delicious Southern-style dessert that's perfect for any occasion. With juicy peaches simmered in a fragrant blend of spices and sugars, baked with a flaky pie crust topping, this cobbler is both classic and comforting. Ready in just over an hour, it's a delightful treat that showcases the natural sweetness of peaches balanced with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Ingredients

Peach Filling

  • 3 lbs frozen peaches
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • tsps vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (divided)
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg

Pie Crust

  • 1 box rolled pie crust (usually contains 2 crusts)
  • Extra granulated sugar and cinnamon for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Bottom Crust: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out one pie crust and place it into the bottom of a baking dish, ensuring it fits snugly and covers the entire base.
  2. Pre-bake the Bottom Crust: Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar evenly over the bottom crust. Lightly rub them into the dough to enhance flavor. Bake this crust in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then remove and set aside.
  3. Melt Butter and Cook Peaches: In a large saucepan or pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the frozen peaches and simmer for 5 minutes to begin softening.
  4. Add Flavors and Simmer: Into the peach mixture, add lemon juice, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Continue to simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring frequently to combine all the flavors and thicken the filling slightly.
  5. Assemble Cobbler: Pour the cooked peach filling evenly over the pre-baked bottom crust in the baking dish. Roll out the second pie crust and slice it into strips, then lay the strips over the peach filling in a lattice or simple cover as desired.
  6. Final Topping and Baking: Sprinkle additional cinnamon and sugar over the top crust. Place the assembled cobbler in the oven and bake for 50 minutes, or until the crust turns a golden brown and filling is bubbly.
  7. Serve: Once baked, allow the peach cobbler to cool slightly before serving to let the filling set. Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • Using frozen peaches works well year-round, but fresh peaches can be substituted when in season for a fresher flavor.
  • Adjust sugar quantities depending on the sweetness of your peaches.
  • Ensure to pre-bake the bottom crust before adding the filling to prevent sogginess.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free pie crust alternatives.
  • Serve warm for the best taste experience, optionally with ice cream.
