Description
This Easy Peach Cobbler recipe is a simple and delicious dessert featuring canned sliced peaches baked with a sweet, buttery flour topping. The syrup from the peaches combines with the flour mixture to create a luscious, thick filling with a golden, bubbly crust. Perfectly paired with vanilla ice cream, this cobbler is a comforting treat that can be quickly prepared and baked in under an hour.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup self-rising flour (see Note for substitution)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar (plus 2 additional tablespoons for topping)
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, divided and melted separately
- 1 (29 ounce) can sliced peaches in heavy syrup (undrained)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the cobbler.
- Make Flour Mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour, 3/4 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/4 cup of the melted butter. Optionally, add a dash of cinnamon for extra flavor and mix coarsely.
- Layer Flour Mixture: Sprinkle about one-third of the flour mixture evenly on the bottom of a 9x9-inch baking dish. This layer will interact with the peach syrup to create a thicker filling during baking.
- Add Peaches: Pour the entire can of sliced peaches, including the juice, over the flour mixture in the baking dish. If you prefer a less juicy cobbler, you can reduce the amount of liquid added.
- Top with Remaining Mixture and Butter: Sprinkle the remaining flour and sugar mixture evenly over the peaches. Then, sprinkle the additional 2 tablespoons of sugar on top. Drizzle the remaining 1/4 cup of melted butter over the entire top layer. Though it appears wet, this will absorb as it bakes.
- Bake Cobber: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and bubbling around the edges.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the cobbler to sit for at least 5 minutes after baking to set. Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
- Adjust Size: This recipe can easily be doubled and baked in a 9x13-inch baking dish to serve more people.
Notes
- If you don't have self-rising flour, you can substitute by mixing 1 cup all-purpose flour with 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
- The cobbler will be quite liquid before baking, but the flour mixture will absorb excess syrup as it cooks to create the perfect texture.
- Adding a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to the flour mixture can enhance the flavor profile but is optional.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for the best experience.
- This recipe is easily scalable to accommodate larger servings by doubling the ingredients and using a larger baking dish.
