Description
A quick and flavorful Easy Sausage and Peppers recipe featuring tender sautéed bell peppers, onions, and juicy turkey sausage, seasoned with garlic and Italian herbs. Perfect for a hearty weeknight meal served over steamed rice or enjoyed on its own.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced into strips
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced into strips
- 1 large white onion, sliced into half-moons
- 12-13 ounce turkey sausage links, sliced on a bias into rounds
- 8 cloves garlic, finely minced (or 1 tablespoon jarred minced garlic)
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning or herbs de provence
- Kosher salt & fresh ground black pepper, to taste
Optional Ingredients
- Steamed white rice or rice of choice, for serving
- 1-2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the fat and sauté vegetables: In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced bell peppers and onions. Sauté them until they are tender and start to caramelize lightly, about 10-12 minutes. Adjust the heat if the mixture is browning too quickly to prevent burning and ensure even cooking.
- Add the sausage: Add the sliced turkey sausage rounds to the skillet and stir well to combine with the peppers and onions. Continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes until the sausage is golden brown and cooked through.
- Season and finish cooking: Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning or herbs de Provence, and salt and black pepper to taste. Cook the mixture for an additional 1-2 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld nicely without burning the garlic.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with fresh chopped parsley. Serve immediately over steamed rice if desired. Enjoy your flavorful sausage and peppers!
Notes
- For a spicier version, use hot Italian sausage instead of turkey sausage.
- You can substitute turkey sausage with pork or chicken sausage according to preference.
- Serve with rice, crusty bread, or pasta for a complete meal.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- To save time, you can use pre-sliced peppers and pre-minced garlic.
