Description

This Egg White Oatmeal recipe is a nutritious and protein-packed twist on traditional oatmeal. Combining old fashioned oats with egg whites creates a creamy, fluffy texture while boosting the protein content, making it a perfect wholesome breakfast option. Enhanced with cinnamon and a hint of sweetness from maple syrup or honey, this comforting dish is quick to prepare and highly customizable with your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Oatmeal Base

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1/2 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1/2 cup water

Egg Whites

  • 1/4 cup egg whites

Sweetener

  • 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Oats: Heat the milk and water in a small saucepan over medium heat until it reaches a gentle simmer. Add the oats, cinnamon, and sea salt, stirring well to combine. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, for 5 to 6 minutes until most of the liquid is absorbed and the oats are tender.
  2. Add Egg Whites: Reduce the heat to LOW. Slowly drizzle the egg whites into the oatmeal while stirring continuously to smoothly incorporate the whites without forming lumps. Cook for about 1 minute more, stirring constantly until the oatmeal thickens, becomes creamy, and the texture is fluffy with no visible egg pieces.
  3. Serve: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the maple syrup or honey to your taste. Transfer the oatmeal to a serving bowl and add your favorite toppings such as sliced banana, fresh berries, a drizzle of peanut butter, or coconut flakes for added flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use liquid egg whites for easy incorporation; pasteurized egg whites are safest.
  • Adjust the sweetness according to your preference by adding more or less maple syrup or honey.
  • For a creamier texture, use whole milk or a dairy alternative like almond or oat milk.
  • Oats can be substituted with steel-cut oats but will require longer cooking time.
  • Feel free to add protein powder or nuts as toppings for an extra boost of protein and texture.
