Ingredients
Salad
- 220 g / 7 oz bocconcini (baby or cherry mozzarella), halved
- 500 g / 1 lb cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 cup basil leaves, torn or roughly chopped
Dressing
- 1 small garlic clove, minced
- 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard (or other non-spicy mustard)
- 2.5 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp white balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp dried parsley
- 1/4 tsp dried thyme (or rosemary)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Black pepper, to taste
Finishing
- Balsamic glaze / reduction, for drizzling
- Additional basil leaves, for garnish
Instructions
- Make the dressing: Place the minced garlic, Dijon mustard, extra virgin olive oil, white balsamic vinegar, dried oregano, parsley, thyme, salt, and black pepper into a jar. Shake vigorously until all ingredients are well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Toss the salad: In a large bowl, combine the halved cherry tomatoes, halved bocconcini, and most of the torn basil leaves. Drizzle the freshly made dressing over the salad and toss gently to ensure even coating without breaking the delicate cheese.
- Prepare to serve: Transfer the salad mixture to a shallow serving bowl for a nice presentation. Just before serving, drizzle the balsamic glaze over the top to add a sweet tang and a beautiful glossy finish.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle the remaining fresh basil leaves over the salad as a fragrant and colorful garnish. Serve the Caprese Salad immediately to enjoy the freshest flavors and textures.
Notes
- Use fresh bocconcini or cherry mozzarella for the best texture and flavor.
- If balsamic glaze is unavailable, reduce balsamic vinegar over medium heat until thickened to make a homemade glaze.
- Adjust salt and pepper in the dressing according to your taste preferences.
- This salad is best served fresh to maintain the integrity of the basil and mozzarella.
