Description

These Graveyard Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats are a spooky and delicious twist on the classic rice krispie treat, perfect for Halloween. Combining the chewy texture of marshmallow-coated Cocoa Rice Krispies with rich chocolate frosting and fun graveyard decorations, this easy no-bake recipe yields a festive dessert that kids and adults will love.

Ingredients

Rice Krispie Treats

  • 10 ounces mini marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter, divided
  • 5 cups Cocoa Rice Krispies cereal

Decoration

  • 16 ounces chocolate frosting
  • 6 Milano cookies, sliced in half
  • Black edible marker
  • 12 candy ghosts (or substitute candy corn or candy pumpkins)

Instructions

  1. Prep the baking pan: Line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper and grease it with a small amount of butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt marshmallows and butter: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted and combined with the butter.
  3. Mix with cereal: Place the Cocoa Rice Krispies cereal into a large mixing bowl. Pour the warm marshmallow mixture over the cereal and gently stir until all cereal is coated evenly.
  4. Form the treats: Pour the marshmallow-cereal mixture into the prepared pan. Using a spatula or lightly buttered hands, press the mixture gently and evenly into the pan to form a compact layer.
  5. Cool and slice: Allow the mixture to cool completely and set at room temperature. Once set, slice the treats into 12 equal rectangular pieces.
  6. Decorate cookies: While the treats are setting, use the black edible marker to write "RIP" on each Milano cookie half to resemble grave stones.
  7. Frost the treats: Spread a generous layer of chocolate frosting over each Rice Krispie treat rectangle.
  8. Add decorations: Press one decorated Milano cookie into the back of each frosted Rice Krispie treat. Top each with a candy ghost to complete the graveyard look.

Notes

  • Use cocoa-flavored Rice Krispies for the chocolate base, or substitute regular Rice Krispies and add cocoa powder to marshmallows mixture for a chocolate flavor.
  • If candy ghosts are unavailable, candy corn or candy pumpkins are excellent alternatives.
  • For easier cutting, refrigerate the treats briefly before slicing to help firm them up.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
