Description

This Homemade Frozen Yogurt recipe offers a deliciously creamy treat made from simple ingredients like Greek yogurt, honey, and vanilla extract. Lightly sweetened and smooth, it's perfect for a refreshing dessert that you can customize with your favorite flavors.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 2 cups Greek yogurt (plain, full-fat)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Place the Greek yogurt, honey, and vanilla extract in a food processor bowl or a medium mixing bowl to begin mixing the base for your frozen yogurt.
  2. Mix Thoroughly: Process the ingredients in the food processor, stopping once to scrape down the sides, then continue processing for another minute until the mixture is light and fluffy. If mixing by hand, stir vigorously for 2-3 minutes until smooth and well aerated.
  3. Initial Freeze: Transfer the yogurt mixture using a spatula into a 9-inch square glass or ceramic baking dish. Cover the dish with cling wrap and place it in the freezer for 45 minutes to start setting the yogurt.
  4. First Stir: Remove the dish from the freezer and use a rubber spatula to stir the edges that have begun to freeze back into the softer center, then spread the mixture evenly again in the dish.
  5. Continue Freezing with Stirring: Cover the dish again and return it to the freezer for 2 more hours. Every 30 minutes, remove the dish and stir the mixture thoroughly to prevent ice crystals from forming, ensuring a creamy texture.
  6. Final Freeze and Serving: Once fully frozen, serve the frozen yogurt immediately as a soft-serve dessert using chilled bowls, or freeze for an additional 1-2 hours to achieve a firmer scoopable texture akin to ice cream.

Notes

  • The honey can be adjusted to taste or replaced with maple syrup or agave nectar for a different flavor profile.
  • For a dairy-free alternative, substitute Greek yogurt with coconut or almond milk yogurt.
  • You can customize this base recipe by adding fresh fruits, chocolate chips, or nuts before freezing.
  • Using full-fat Greek yogurt enhances creaminess but you may use lower-fat versions for a lighter option.
  • Chilling your mixing bowl and utensils beforehand can help keep the mixture cold and improve texture.
