Ingredients
Bread
- 4 slices sourdough bread
Cheese
- 1 cup white cheddar cheese, shredded
Fruit & Sweeteners
- 1 medium ripe peach, sliced
- 2 tablespoons honey (divided)
Others
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- a pinch salt (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the skillet: Place a skillet over medium heat and allow it to warm up for a few minutes to ensure even cooking.
- Butter the bread: Spread 1 tablespoon of the softened unsalted butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough bread to help achieve a crispy, golden crust.
- Assemble the sandwich base: On the unbuttered sides of two bread slices, layer half of the shredded white cheddar cheese to create a melty cheesy foundation.
- Add peach slices: Distribute the sliced ripe peach evenly over the cheese to add a fresh, juicy sweetness.
- Drizzle honey and season: Drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey over the peach slices, then sprinkle a pinch of salt if desired to balance the flavors.
- Top with remaining cheese and bread: Add the rest of the shredded white cheddar cheese on top of the peaches, then close the sandwiches with the remaining bread slices, buttered sides facing out.
- Cook the first side: Place sandwiches into the preheated skillet and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the bread turns golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.
- Flip and cook other side: Carefully flip the sandwiches with a spatula and cook for another 3 to 5 minutes until the second side is golden and the cheese is fully melted.
- Rest and slice: Remove the grilled cheese from the heat and allow it to cool slightly for easier slicing. Then cut each sandwich in half.
- Serve: Serve the sandwiches immediately, optionally drizzling extra honey over the top for added sweetness.
Notes
- Use ripe but firm peaches to avoid the sandwich becoming too soggy.
- Feel free to substitute sourdough with your favorite bread, like ciabatta or multigrain, for variation.
- Adding a pinch of salt enhances the sweetness of the peaches and honey.
- Butter should be softened for easy spreading and better browning of the bread.
- Serve immediately to enjoy the melted cheese at its best texture.
