Description

These festive Jack-O'-Lantern Burgers are a fun and delicious way to celebrate Halloween. Made with a flavorful mix of ground beef, beef sausage, and ranch dressing mix for extra juiciness and seasoning, then topped with cheddar cheese carved like classic jack-o'-lantern faces. Perfect for a spooky-themed meal, these burgers are cooked quickly on a cast iron grill pan and served on toasted buns with your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ lb beef sausage
  • 1 (1-oz) packet ranch dressing mix

Toppings & Extras

  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Mix the Meats: Combine ground beef, beef sausage, and ranch dressing mix in a large bowl. Mix gently just until everything is evenly incorporated to avoid tough burgers.
  2. Form Patties: Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a burger patty, making them evenly thick for uniform cooking.
  3. Cook the Burgers: Heat a cast iron grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the patties until the internal temperature reaches 160ºF, ensuring they are cooked safely through, about 6-7 minutes total, flipping once.
  4. Create Jack-O'-Lantern Faces: While the burgers cook, use a small sharp knife to carefully cut jack-o'-lantern-style eyes, noses, and mouths into each slice of cheddar cheese.
  5. Add the Cheese: Once the burgers are cooked, place one carved cheese slice on each patty. Cover or reduce heat and cook for about 1 minute until the cheese begins to soften but does not fully melt, preserving the facial designs.
  6. Assemble and Serve: Toast the hamburger buns lightly and place each cheesy patty on a bun. Add your favorite toppings and serve immediately for a fun and flavorful meal.

Notes

  • Substitute ground beef for sausage if preferred, though sausage adds extra flavor and juiciness.
  • Use cheddar cheese for the best orange color; American cheese is a good alternative.
  • Do not fully melt the cheese to keep the jack-o'-lantern faces visible.
  • Burger patties and cheese faces can be prepared ahead and refrigerated until cooking time.
