Description
A hearty and comforting Loaded Shepherd's Pie Bowl featuring creamy mashed potatoes, savory seasoned ground beef simmered in rich brown gravy, sweet corn, and melted cheddar cheese, all served in one satisfying bowl.
Ingredients
Mashed Potatoes
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
Ground Beef & Gravy
- 1 package raw ground beef (80% lean, approx. 1 lb)
- 1 box McCormick Brown Gravy mix
Other Ingredients
- 1 can Del Monte Sweet Corn (drained)
- 1 bag shredded cheddar cheese (orange and yellow blend, about 2 cups)
Instructions
- Prepare the mashed potatoes: Peel and cube the potatoes, then boil them in a pot of salted water until fork-tender, approximately 15 minutes. Drain the water, then mash the potatoes with butter and milk until creamy and fluffy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook the ground beef: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the raw ground beef. Brown the meat, breaking it apart with a spoon until fully cooked and crumbly. Drain excess grease from the skillet.
- Make the brown gravy: Prepare the McCormick Brown Gravy according to the package instructions, then add it to the cooked ground beef in the skillet. Simmer the mixture until the gravy is thick, dark brown, and glossy, about 5 minutes.
- Heat the sweet corn: Drain the canned sweet corn and heat it in a small saucepan or microwave until bright yellow and steaming, about 2-3 minutes.
- Assemble the bowl: Place a thick mound of the creamy mashed potatoes into a white ceramic bowl.
- Add the sweet corn: Arrange a ring of the heated sweet corn around the top edge of the mashed potatoes in the bowl.
- Top with beef and gravy: Spoon the gravy-coated ground beef generously over the mashed potatoes and corn.
- Add the cheese: Sprinkle a generous layer of shredded cheddar cheese over the meat while it’s hot so the cheese melts into a gooey, draped topping.
- Serve immediately: Serve the loaded shepherd’s pie bowl hot. The gravy will pool slightly at the base, adding extra flavor with each bite.
Notes
- The cheese should be melted, gooey, and draped over the meat for the best texture and flavor.
- Use 80% lean ground beef to ensure a good balance of flavor and fat for the gravy.
- If you prefer a thicker gravy, simmer longer to reduce to desired consistency.
- For a creamier mashed potato, add extra butter or milk as needed.
- This recipe can be customized by adding sautéed onions or peas to the beef mixture for additional flavor and texture.
