Description
These Mummy Hot Dogs are a fun and spooky snack perfect for Halloween or any themed party. Wrapped in whole wheat crescent roll dough to resemble mummy bandages and topped with cute candy eyes or mustard dots, they are quick to prepare and loved by kids and adults alike.
Ingredients
Hot Dogs
- 8 uncured (nitrate-free) hot dogs
Dough
- 1 (8 oz) package of refrigerated whole wheat crescent roll dough
Decoration
- 16 mini candy eyes or dots of mustard for the eyes
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Prepare Dough: Remove the crescent roll dough from the can and separate it at the perforations to create 4 large rectangles. Press the dough to seal the perforations so it forms one continuous sheet per rectangle.
- Cut Dough Strips: Cut each large dough rectangle lengthwise into thin strips. Thinner strips work better for wrapping, and stretching the strips slightly will help them wrap more easily around the hot dogs.
- Wrap Hot Dogs: Take each hot dog and wrap it with the dough strips, leaving a small gap near the top of the hot dog for the eyes. Criss-cross the strips over the hot dog to resemble mummy bandages.
- Bake: Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes until the dough is golden brown and fully cooked through.
- Add Eyes: Once baked and slightly cooled, place two mini candy eyes on the exposed gap near the top of each hot dog mummy. Alternatively, you can use dots of mustard to create the mummy’s eyes.
Notes
- Use uncured hot dogs to avoid nitrates and make the recipe slightly healthier.
- Thin dough strips create a better mummy effect and ensure even baking.
- If using mustard for eyes, apply after baking to avoid mustard running.
- Whole wheat crescent dough adds a healthier twist compared to regular dough.
- This recipe is great for kids and can be customized with different hot dog types like turkey or vegetarian options.
