Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Add-Ins
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Mix Together Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the oats, all-purpose flour, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Stir until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Add in the Wet Ingredients: Pour the melted unsalted butter into the dry ingredients. Add the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix everything thoroughly until the dough is fully combined and holds together.
- Add the Chocolate Chips: Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly through the batter, ensuring every bite has a bit of chocolate.
- Bake: Spread the dough evenly in the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the bars are lightly golden on top and set in the middle.
- Sprinkle with Salt, Cool and Slice: As soon as the bars come out of the oven, sprinkle coarse sea salt over the top to enhance the flavors. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before lifting out with the parchment paper. Cut into 24 squares and serve.
Notes
- Use parchment paper for easy removal and cleaner slices.
- Make sure the bars are completely cool before cutting to prevent crumbling.
- Coarse sea salt enhances the chocolate flavor but can be omitted if preferred.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
