Description
These Patriotic Pretzel Rods are a festive and fun treat perfect for celebrating holidays and special occasions. Crunchy pretzel rods are dipped in colorful red, white, and blue candy melts and decorated with sprinkles or drizzled stripes to create themed snack rods that are as visually appealing as they are delicious.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 bag pretzel rods (about 18 rods)
- 1 bag white candy melts (approximately 12 ounces)
- 1 bag red candy melts (approximately 12 ounces)
- 1 bag blue candy melts (approximately 12 ounces)
- Patriotic sprinkles (optional, about 1/4 cup)
Instructions
- Melt Candy Melts: Melt each color of candy melts separately in microwave-safe containers by heating in 20-30 second increments, stirring well between each until completely melted. Alternatively, melt using a double boiler over simmering water until smooth.
- Dip Pretzel Rods: Pour the melted candy melts into tall, narrow glasses. Dip each pretzel rod approximately three-quarters of the way into the candy melts. Allow excess candy to drip off before laying the rods on a parchment-lined baking sheet or wire rack. For creating American Flag-themed rods, first dip the rods in white candy melts and let set. Then dip only the tip of the rod into the blue candy melts.
- Prepare for Drizzling: Transfer any leftover melted candy melts into piping bags or similar tools for drizzling. If the candy cools and begins to thicken, warm it in the microwave for 5-10 seconds to loosen.
- Decorate Pretzels: Drizzle the dipped pretzel rods with contrasting colors to create stripes or other patterns. For American Flag rods, drizzle red and white stripes along the white-dipped base with a blue candy tip.
- Set and Serve: Allow the candy coating to fully set at room temperature before serving. Display pretzels on a platter or standing in cups or mason jars for a festive presentation.
Notes
- Use parchment paper or a wire rack to allow candy melts to set without sticking.
- Work quickly when dipping for smooth coatings before candy hardens.
- Microwave times may vary; heat candy melts in short bursts to avoid burning.
- Optional sprinkles can be added immediately after dipping for extra festive flair.
- Store dipped pretzel rods in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crunch.
