Description

This Pear Crisp recipe is a comforting and delicious dessert featuring tender, spiced pears topped with a crunchy oat and nut crumble. Perfect for any season, it's easy to prepare and bakes to golden perfection, offering a warm and satisfying treat for family and guests.

Ingredients

Fruit Mixture

  • 4 cups pears (peeled and thinly sliced from 5-6 pears)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Topping

  • 1 cup rolled oats (gluten free, if needed)
  • 1/3 cup all purpose flour (gluten free, if needed)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts (optional, chopped)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 2-quart baking dish using butter or non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Pear Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the peeled and thinly sliced pears with granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Mix well to evenly coat the pears. Pour this mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  3. Make the Crumble Topping: Using the same bowl, mix together the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, and brown sugar. If using nuts, fold in the chopped pecans or walnuts now.
  4. Incorporate Butter: Cut the unsalted butter into the dry ingredients using a fork, pastry cutter, or your fingers until the mixture forms crumbly pieces.
  5. Assemble the Crisp: Evenly sprinkle the crumble mixture over the pear filling in the baking dish.
  6. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are hot and bubbling at the edges.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the pear crisp to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it warm, at room temperature, or chilled according to your preference.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free rolled oats and gluten-free all-purpose flour.
  • Optional nuts can be omitted or substituted with more oats for a nut-free option.
  • Serving the crisp with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream enhances the dessert experience.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
