Description
Ravioli lasagna puts a comforting twist on traditional lasagna by using four-cheese ravioli layered with savory sausage marinara, melted mozzarella, and fresh basil. This quick and easy oven-baked dish combines rich flavors with simple preparation, making it a perfect weeknight comfort meal.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1 lb. beef sausage
- 1 (24-oz.) jar marinara sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 (20-oz.) package refrigerated four-cheese ravioli (such as Buitoni)
- 8 oz. whole milk mozzarella, shredded and divided (about 2 cups)
- 2 Tbsp. torn fresh basil leaves
Instructions
- Prepare oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F and position the oven rack about 8 inches from the heat source to ensure even and effective baking.
- Cook sausage: Heat the olive oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook while stirring until it is browned and no longer pink, about 6 to 7 minutes.
- Add marinara sauce: Pour in the marinara sauce and 1 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently and scraping the browned bits from the skillet bottom to build flavor. This should take around 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add ravioli: Gently stir in the refrigerated four-cheese ravioli, cooking until the sauce thickens and the ravioli are just tender, about 3 to 5 minutes. Stir often but gently to avoid breaking the ravioli.
- Assemble lasagna: Remove the skillet from heat. Transfer half of the ravioli mixture to a medium bowl. Sprinkle the ravioli mixture remaining in the skillet evenly with 1 cup of shredded mozzarella. Layer the ravioli mixture from the bowl on top evenly, then sprinkle the remaining 1 cup mozzarella over the entire dish.
- Bake lasagna: Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake until the mozzarella cheese melts and develops a light golden brown, approximately 10 minutes.
- Garnish and serve: Remove the skillet from the oven, sprinkle torn fresh basil leaves over the top, and serve immediately while warm and bubbly.
Notes
- You can substitute turkey sausage or plant-based sausage for a leaner or vegetarian option.
- Fresh basil leaves can be replaced with dried basil; use 1 teaspoon if dried.
- For a spicier dish, consider adding red pepper flakes when cooking the sausage.
- This recipe works best with refrigerated ravioli; frozen ravioli might need longer cooking time before baking.
- Use an ovenproof skillet to avoid transferring the dish to another baking dish, saving cleanup time.
