Description

This festive Reindeer Food recipe is a delightful and easy-to-make holiday snack mix combining crunchy Chex cereal, rich melted chocolate and peanut butter, powdered sugar coating, and colorful red and green M&Ms. Perfect for sharing during the holidays or leaving out for Santa's reindeer, it comes together quickly with no baking required.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 7 cups Chex cereal
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Coating and Mix-Ins

  • 2 cups powdered sugar (reduce to 1 1/2 cups if you prefer a lighter coating)
  • 2 cups red and green M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Melting the Chocolate and Peanut Butter: In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is completely melted and smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract if using.
  2. Coating the Chex Cereal: Gently fold the Chex cereal into the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture, being careful not to break the cereal pieces, until they are evenly coated.
  3. Adding the Powdered Sugar: Place the powdered sugar into a large zip-top bag. Add the chocolate-coated cereal mixture to the bag, seal it tightly, and shake vigorously until every piece is well coated with powdered sugar.
  4. Incorporating the M&Ms: Transfer the coated cereal back into a clean bowl and fold in the red and green M&Ms evenly throughout the mixture.
  5. Storage: Store the Reindeer Food in an airtight container to keep it fresh and crunchy until ready to serve or gift.

Notes

  • You can reduce the powdered sugar to 1 1/2 cups if you prefer a lighter coating on the cereal pieces.
  • Be gentle when folding the cereal into the chocolate mixture to avoid breaking the pieces.
  • This snack is great for holiday parties, gifting, or leaving out for Santa’s reindeer on Christmas Eve.
  • Store the mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
