Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- 7 cups Chex cereal
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Coating and Mix-Ins
- 2 cups powdered sugar (reduce to 1 1/2 cups if you prefer a lighter coating)
- 2 cups red and green M&Ms
Instructions
- Melting the Chocolate and Peanut Butter: In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is completely melted and smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract if using.
- Coating the Chex Cereal: Gently fold the Chex cereal into the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture, being careful not to break the cereal pieces, until they are evenly coated.
- Adding the Powdered Sugar: Place the powdered sugar into a large zip-top bag. Add the chocolate-coated cereal mixture to the bag, seal it tightly, and shake vigorously until every piece is well coated with powdered sugar.
- Incorporating the M&Ms: Transfer the coated cereal back into a clean bowl and fold in the red and green M&Ms evenly throughout the mixture.
- Storage: Store the Reindeer Food in an airtight container to keep it fresh and crunchy until ready to serve or gift.
Notes
- You can reduce the powdered sugar to 1 1/2 cups if you prefer a lighter coating on the cereal pieces.
- Be gentle when folding the cereal into the chocolate mixture to avoid breaking the pieces.
- This snack is great for holiday parties, gifting, or leaving out for Santa’s reindeer on Christmas Eve.
- Store the mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
