These Spooky Graveyard Cupcakes are a fun and festive Halloween treat featuring delicious chocolate cupcakes topped with eerie 'tombstone' graham crackers coated in white and dark chocolate. The cupcakes are baked to perfection and decorated with chocolate chips, cocoa powder, Halloween sprinkles, and M&Ms to create a creepy graveyard scene that is sure to impress.

Ingredients

Cupcake Batter

  • 2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • ½ Cup Brown Sugar
  • ¼ Cup Butter, softened
  • ¼ Cup Milk
  • 1 Tsp Vinegar
  • 1 Tsp Yogurt
  • 1 Tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Cup Melted Dark Chocolate

Tombstone Decoration

  • 2 Sheets Graham Crackers
  • ½ Cup White Chocolate, melted
  • Melted Dark Chocolate for inscription

Additional Decoration

  • Chocolate Chips
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Halloween Sprinkles
  • M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a mixing bowl, blend the softened butter and brown sugar together until the mixture becomes creamy and smooth. This step ensures a light texture in the cupcakes.
  2. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and cocoa powder to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until the batter appears lumpy.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Incorporate the vinegar, yogurt, and milk into the batter. Fold everything together gently with a spatula until combined and the batter remains slightly lumpy.
  4. Preheat Oven and Prepare Muffin Tray: Preheat your oven to 400°F (220°C). Line a muffin tray with cupcake liners.
  5. Bake the Cupcakes: Pour the cupcake batter evenly into the lined muffin tray. Bake for 5 minutes at 400°F, then reduce the oven temperature by 100°F (to 300°F or 150°C) and bake for an additional 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and let the cupcakes cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Prepare Tombstones: Cut graham crackers into small rectangle shapes to resemble tombstones. Dip each piece into melted white chocolate, coating evenly, then place on a tray and freeze for 45 minutes to set.
  7. Inscribe Tombstones: Using melted dark chocolate and a toothpick or piping bag, write spooky inscriptions such as "RIP" or "BOO" on the white chocolate-coated tombstones. Freeze again for 15 minutes to harden the lettering.
  8. Make the Chocolate Mud Topping: Dip the cupcake tops into melted dark chocolate to coat them evenly. Sprinkle chocolate chips and a dusting of cocoa powder on top, then place in the freezer for 15 minutes to set the coating.
  9. Assemble the Graveyard: Insert the decorated tombstones into the chocolate-coated cupcake tops. Add Halloween sprinkles and M&Ms on top for festive decoration. Chill the assembled cupcakes for 20–30 minutes until completely set and ready to serve.

Notes

  • If you prefer a stronger chocolate flavor, you can increase the cocoa powder to 3 tablespoons.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing and cupcake texture.
  • Be careful when dipping the graham crackers in white chocolate to avoid breakage.
  • Make sure cupcakes are completely cooled before decorating to prevent melting the chocolate coating.
  • These cupcakes can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
