- 2 teaspoons red food color
Decorations (Optional)

Instructions
- Make the Cupcakes: Preheat your oven to 350℉ (175℃). Line a 12-cup standard muffin tin with paper liners and spray them with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In another bowl or the bowl of a mixer, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add Eggs, Vanilla, and Sour Cream: Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract and sour cream until combined.
- Add Red Food Coloring: Stir in red food color starting with 1 teaspoon, adding up to 3 teaspoons or until desired vibrant red color is reached.
- Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Scrape the sides of the bowl to ensure even mixing.
- Fill the Muffin Tin: Using an ice cream scoop, fill each lined muffin cup about ¾ full with batter.
- Bake: Bake the cupcakes for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the Cream Cheese Frosting: Beat softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Add vanilla extract, salt, and icing sugar then continue to beat until fluffy.
- Frost the Cupcakes: Fill a piping bag with the cream cheese frosting and pipe it onto each cooled cupcake.
- Prepare Red Icing Drizzle: In a small bowl, whisk together icing sugar, milk, and red food color until you achieve a dark, blood-like icing with a thin consistency suitable for drizzling.
- Decorate: Dip the blade side of each Halloween knife decoration into the red icing, then place it into the frosting on each cupcake. Drizzle additional red icing over the cupcakes to create a bloody effect.
Notes
- Adjust red food coloring amount depending on the brand and desired intensity of red color.
- Ensure cupcakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
- The red icing drizzle should be thin enough to flow easily; add milk gradually to achieve the right consistency.
- Use cream cheese and butter at room temperature for a smooth frosting.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute cream cheese and butter with suitable non-dairy alternatives.
