Description
Delicious and fun-to-eat waffle sticks and pops made with a simple batter of flour, cornstarch, brown sugar, and baking essentials. Perfect for breakfast or a snack, these waffle sticks cook quickly in a waffle stick maker and can be customized with your favorite add-ins or toppings.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- ¾ cup flour
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- ¾ cup whole milk
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution of all dry ingredients.
- Add Wet Ingredients and Whisk: Pour in the whole milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract into the dry ingredients. Whisk everything together until you have a smooth, homogenous batter. Set aside to rest. For overnight preparation, cover the batter and refrigerate until morning.
- Preheat Waffle Stick Maker: Turn on your waffle stick maker to preheat, ensuring it reaches the optimal temperature before cooking.
- Prepare Batter Portions: Measure about ¼ cup of batter (or the amount suitable for your waffle stick maker) into a small bowl. If you want to add extras like chocolate chips or nuts, stir them in now.
- Grease and Pour Batter: Lightly grease the waffle stick maker to prevent sticking. Pour the batter onto the cooking surface and spread evenly. If making pops, insert lollipop sticks into the batter before closing the maker.
- Cook Waffle Sticks: Close the waffle stick maker and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until the waffle sticks stop steaming and are cooked through. This ensures they are crispy on the outside and fully cooked inside.
- Cool and Repeat: Carefully remove the cooked waffle sticks and place them on a cooling rack. Repeat the process with the remaining batter until finished.
Notes
- For variations, you can mix in mini chocolate chips, blueberries, or chopped nuts into the batter before cooking.
- To keep waffle sticks warm before serving, place them on a baking sheet in a low oven (about 200°F/95°C).
- The batter can be made the night before and refrigerated to save time in the morning.
- If you don’t have a waffle stick maker, you can try using a regular waffle iron and then cut waffles into sticks.
- Serve with syrup, honey, or your favorite toppings like whipped cream or fresh fruit.
